About the Author
Dr. Haas received his medical training from the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He moved to California in 1972
and joined with Dr. Irving Oyle and Dr. Martin Rossman
at the Bolinas Health Service to study the philosophy of
healing. There, they observed the treatment of the entire
or whole being, initially referred to as Holistic Medicine.
After studying the effects of therapies they used, Dr.
Haas created his own programs in nutrition, herbology and
detoxification. These programs led to the development of
classes, newsletters and, ultimately, the publications
of his first book, Staying Healthy with the Seasons (Celestial
Arts), now in 1984, Dr. Haas became Medical Director of
the Preventive Medical Center of Marin, located in San
Rafael, California, north of San Francisco. Since its inception,
the Center has thrived and grown to become a model of integrated
health care in the modern world. He has worked with thousands
of patients at the Center using the detoxification and
cleansing methods about which he has written. Currently
his practice blends natural therapies including nutrition,
bodywork and acupuncture with the Western model to create
what he terms Integrated Medicine.
“I
have been doing the program both personally and in my
practice with very satisfying results. I highly recommend
the program as part of any cleansing practice.” Dr. Elson Haas, Preventive Medical
Center of Marin, California
This informative booklet is necessary for anyone seeking
an internal cleanse. Dr. Haas has been writing on nutrition
for many years and continues to use Whole
Body and Colon Cleanse Program in his practice to this
day.
The Detox Diet Updated $12.95
Book Description
Substance abuse comes in many forms, from the seemingly
innocent morning cup of coffee to life-threatening drug
addiction. Such abuses are linked with a wide range of
health problems including fatigue, headaches, weight gain,
high blood pressure, allergies, depression, cancer—or
worse. Dr. Elson Haas has helped thousands recover from
chemical dependency through what he calls the missing link
in the American diet: detoxification. A fully updated edition
of the best-selling classic, THE NEW DETOX DIET, provides
specific programs for cleansing your body of sugar, nicotine,
alcohol, caffeine, and other harmful toxins. The first
step of detox is eliminating these destructive habits and
replacing them with healthy alternatives through changes
to your diet and lifestyle. This is easier said than done,
of course, and Dr. Haas shows how to gently eliminate these
habits and restore health using the body’s natural
healing process. Even after years of a damaging lifestyle
or eating habits, you can break the cycle of addiction
and achieve greater vitality, better relationships, and
improved overall well-being.

The
False Fat Diet $6.99
Book Description
If you know you swell up after bee stings, you avoid bees.
If you know a close encounter with poison ivy will leave
you itching and scratching for a week, you keep your eyes
open for three-leafed plants. But, according to The False
Fat Diet, many of us spend our entire lives eating foods
that "don't agree with us," and as a result carry
around extra pounds, put up with allergies, and go through
life looking older and feeling less energetic than we should.
Of course, the hook here is weight loss. If you eliminate
the foods that make you gassy and bloated, you can probably
drop pounds instantly--up to 10 pounds of "false fat" in
a week, Elson Haas says--and then keep dropping weight
in subsequent weeks and months, the real fat, all without
feeling hungry or deprived.
Haas offers two ways to figure out if you've got food
sensitivities: a medical blood test or an elimination diet,
in which you cut out certain foods for a while, then gradually
reintroduce them to see if they're the ones causing the
problems. (The usual suspects: dairy, wheat, corn, sugar,
eggs, soy, peanuts.) The False Fat Diet offers detailed
instructions on how to eliminate each of these foods, and
also offers ideas about supplements to take and other strategies
to deal with the strangeness of not eating what are probably
your favorite foods.
Although the basic idea behind The False Fat Diet is counterintuitive--that
the foods you like and crave the most are causing you the
most severe physical problems--the potential benefits are
enormous. Haas and Cameron Stauth tell numerous stories
of patients (including Stauth and his sister) who lost
weight instantly, looked younger, and felt better by following
the diet that makes the most sense for them.
